Lee Min Ho Brought In To Help Korean Tourism Industry Bounce Back From MERS

As the MERS outbreak in South Korea continues to keep tourists away, the country's government has made actor Lee Min Ho a public ambassador to help boost visits.

Lee Min Ho - one of the most popular young actors in South Korea after starring in Heirs and Boys Over Flowers and announcing his relationship with top star Suzy Bae - is slated to appear in a promotional video which will be aired worldwide in August, reports The Korea Herald.

The actor has reportedly finished shooting the promotional video with top producers from South Korea and China.

The video has a campaign slogan of "Korea, Let Your Story Begin," and features several of the country's major tourist attractions. These include the scenic Cheonggyecheon Stream in Seoul, the historic Seochon neighborhood, and the charming Samcheong-dong neighborhood.

The video will then air starting in August on global broadcasting channels, including CNN, China's CCTV and Korea's Arirang TV. It will also be heavily promoted on YouTube.

"It was indeed a meaningful opportunity to promote the beauty of our country," Lee Min Ho said through a statement from his agency. "I hope this will work as a trigger to revive the current recession in Korea's tourist industry."

Foreign visitors are scared of traveling to South Korea, but the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism hopes that this new campaign starring Lee Min Ho will renew interest.
