Terrence Howard has some real-life battle with an ex-wife and may have to face the court as well off screen.

In a report on The Hollywood Reporter, it was cited that the "Empire" actor was being sued by his ex-wife Michelle Ghent for an alleged incident in Costa Rica back in July 29, 2013. Among the accusations made by Ghent against Howard were "assault and battery, intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress" and defamation.

Ghent elaborated in the complaint how Howard punched and kicked her and also threatened her making Ghent fear for her life.

"On the evening of July 29, 2013, defendant Terrence Howard could not control his anger, became verbally abusive, and then followed plaintiff into the restroom of the rental house and punched her on the left side of her face," the complaint stated as quoted by Courthouse News Service.

"Defendant also grabbed plaintiff by her neck and pushed her against the bathroom wall and strangled her for several seconds," it added.

As reported as well on E! Online, Terrence Howard's son-in-law Billy purportedly tried to stop the incident with his ex-wife.

"While Billy tried to pry Defendant's hands from Plaintiff's neck, Defendant whispered to Plaintiff, 'Remember what I told you in Bora Bora? That is what I'm gonna do,'" the complaint said. "Plaintiff interpreted the reference to mean that Defendant was going to kill her."

Howard reportedly hurt Ghent again that night but she used a pepper spray on him. Nevertheless, the actor was still apparently able to kick her several times.

E! Online as well as THR have contacted Howard's camp for a comment but they did not respond.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight back in 2013 though, Howard insisted he did not hurt Ghent.

"I really can't harm a fly," he told ET. "It's completely against my spirit, but I'm so heartbroken, that you can see that doing it on a night like this is only for an attempt to try and hurt me."

"[The allegations are] completely wrong, unfortunately, there are some documents that will come out and will tell everything that has occurred, but I never laid my hands on that woman," Terrence Howard said about his ex-wife. "Or any woman, that's just not my way."
