Celebrity Chef Judy Joo Calls Koreans 'The Drama Queens Of Asia' In Guardian Article On London Cultural Festival Featuring f(x)

High-profile chef and restaurateur Judy Joo may have left a bad taste in the mouth of some of her fellow Koreans with her comments to the British newspaper the Guardian on Thursday.

In a feature on the upcoming Korean culture festival taking place in London, England on Sunday, Joo minced no words when discussing the common perceptions of her people.

"Koreans are known as the drama queens of Asia," she said. "They wear their hearts on the sleeves. What you see is what you get in Korea."

The American-born culinary expert is perhaps best known as the host of the Cooking Channel program "Korean Food Made Simple" or for her legal eagle letter-writing faceoff with Gordon Ramsay back in April after the latter chef's managing director Stuart Gillies accused Joo of being "economical with the truth" in regards to the bio posted on her website.

The TV food personality will host a live cooking session at the London event, which will feature a performance from K-pop girl group f(x) as well as what the Guardian describes as  "traditional handcraft workshops, trade zones and Korean animation screenings" along with "various designs of "hanbok" or traditional Korean dress...showcased at a fashion show."

The South Korean festival is London's first attempt at holding such a happening, aimed at boosting understanding between the two nations as South Korea celebrates "Gwangbokjeol" or "Restoration of Light Day" on Aug. 15, marking 70 years since the end of Japanese occupation.

According to Ramy Salameh from the Korean Tourism Organization, the milestone is significant.

"The fact that we are hosting an event in the premier site in London shows how far Korea has come in terms of its relationship with the UK and the way that it as a destination has grabbed the imagination of the UK public," Ramy said.

And that attention has a lot to do with K-pop, according to 19-year-old supermarket clerk Kevin Kim, who emigrated from South Korea in 2008.

"My friends at school didn't know much about South Korea, but it changed after Psy's 'Gangnam Style,'" he said. "Then they became more interested in our culture, music and food."
