The Best New K-Pop Tracks This Week

This week's Billboard K-Pop Hot 100 had three new songs enter the top 15 and they are definitely worth checking out.

It is no surprise that Lee Hi's new single, "It's Over" debuted on the Billboard K-Pop Hot 100 this week at No. 4.

Recently there has been tremendous buzz surrounding the 16-year-old singer and a lot of anticipation for her debut album, First Love, the first part of which was released this week.

"It's Over" is not a bad follow-up to her first single "1234" released last year. That song debuted at No. 1 and stayed in the top position for three weeks.

The new song is a nice step forward for Lee Hi. It is easy to see why her voice alone sets her apart from the rest of the herd. "It's Over" showcases her soulful vocals on top of a jazzy instrumentation that includes piano and horns. The chorus of "It's over, it's over, so baby goodbye" is almost addictive as it gets stuck in your head and makes you tap your feet.

While the song is relatively juvenile (and her youth emphasized in the video below), Lee Hi's vocal abilities shine and there is no doubt that as she matures and her voice continues to develop, she will be a force to be reckoned with in the industry.

Lee Hi's "Special" featuring Jennie Kim also debuted on the list this week at No. 16.

Another debut on the Billboard list this week that was not at all shocking to see is Akdong Musician at No. 8 with "Crescendo." The playful brother-sister duo are currently contestants on the second season of SBS's singing competition reality show KpopStar.

They performed the original song on the March 10th episode and received tremendous praise from judges and fans alike. Their staging is always a pleasure to watch as they bop around stage with adorable choreography to their bubbly melody.

Their previous songs "Don't Cross Your Legs" and "You're Charming" also made it onto the Billboard K-Pop Hot 100 and "Crescendo" is currently ranked No. 1 on the Melon chart as well.

Akdong Musician have a unique style and are a refreshing addition to the world of K-Pop idols and performers with their creative lyrics and peppy tones. There is no doubt we will be seeing a lot more from this pair of siblings in the future.

And at No. 15 this week was the debut of Zion.T's "Two Melodies" featuring Crush.

This is the third single to be released from the AmoebaCulture project album NOWorkened (the previous two were from Yankie and Gaeko of Dynamic Duo).

It is a smooth and simple R&B track, slow-tempo with a bit of piano and some bass and snare drum to round it out. Zion.T has been gaining some recognition in the hip-hop world as of late, and this easy jam really shows off his distinctive voice. The arrangement seems to be reminiscent of the soulful American R&B artists of the 90's and it is extremely easy to listen to.

The song is about bittersweet love and the unfortunate breakups that are a part of our lives. And as Crush sarcastically suggests in his lyrics, this is an "obvious love song."
