John Oliver Suggests South Korea Blast Pre-Breakup TVXQ, Neon Bunny, Jo Sung Mo, Uhm Jung Hwa Towards North Korea

One English comedian knows what music North Korea should be listening to.

Prior to the news that South and North Korea agreed to halt rising tensions, there were reports of South Korea blasting K-pop towards the North Korean border. John Oliver, the host of HBO's "Last Week Tonight" had something to say on that.

During the August 23 show, Oliver addressed the idea of K-pop being used as a form of propaganda and suggested that South Korea play songs by indie artist Neon Bunny, soloists Uhm Jung Hwa and Jo Sung Mo, and the K-pop idol group TVXQ.

"[The South Korean military] haven't said exactly what music they've been playing, but I hope it's some of the better K-pop stuff," said Oliver. "I'm talking 'Seoulight' by Neon Bunny, basically anything by Uhm Jung Hwa, Jo Sung Mo's early stuff."

Oliver was clear that he only meant songs performed by TVXQ prior to the 2009 split. "Or maybe TVXQ before Hero Jaejoong left," Oliver said at the end of the segment, "because I think we all know that after that the whole band's sound when to s**t."

Kim "Hero" Jaejoong is one of the three members of TVXQ that left the group and formed a new act, JYJ, in 2010.

The comedian professed that he knew all of the Korean acts offhand, and that the K-pop songs were his personal suggestions.

"I didn't need to Google any of that, it was all up here," Oliver pointed to his brain as he made the claim, and then pointed to his heart. "And in here."

The segment ended with Oliver requesting that South Korea does not broadcast a song by Hwang Min Woo, sometimes known as "Little Psy" for his appearance in "Gangnam Style."

South Korea played propaganda against North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un as well as K-pop. The 48 speakers allegedly played songs by Girls' Generation, Big Bang, Noh Sa Yeon, and other Korean musicians prior to being removed on Tuesday.
