Minnie Mouse Makeover Makes Debut At Disneyland Paris Fashion Show

Minnie Mouse is getting a makeover, and that means no more cute red and white polka dot dress for the famous Disney character.

Minnie Mouse's makeover features a new dress designed by Lanvin in royal blue with long sleeves.

Minnie's makeover was revealed at a catwalk show in Disneyland - Paris on Saturday, March 23.

In general, Minnie Mouse's makeover shows that she is growing up.

Even Minnie Mouse's signature bow, which has been part of Minnie's getup since she was first drawn in 1928, is gone.

Instead, Minnie will wear a red tiara to accompany her new blue gown with padded shoulders.

"Walt Disney was the one that actually designed Minnie. It's the first time an actual designer has come into the picture and designed a dress for her. It was a great challenge and responsibility to do. I just wanted her to shine...I wanted to give her a crown in red, and the dress in blue, [a signature] for Lanvin," explained Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz after the fashion show.

Celebrities in the audience loved Minnie's updated look, including Virginie Ledoyen and Natalia Vodianova.

However, not everyone loved the new Minnie.

"It's definitely more mature. It looks a bit mother-of-the-bride. I preferred the polka dots," said viewer Matthew Gallagher.

Purists needn't worry; Minnie will keep her red-and-white dress for daily events, in addition to her full hourglass figure.

Last October, new images for Barney's New York featuring a tall, skinny Minnie were criticized. Designers quickly reverted to Minnie's full-bodied look.

Elbaz explained, "We're not here to transform people. We love [Minnie] the way she is."
