Just because he went through a breakup with his ex girlfriend Maria Sharapova, that doesn’t mean that Grigor Dimitrov has given up his dream. In fact, he was named one of the “Cinderella” candidates campaigning for the US Open 2015.

ESPN called Grigor Dimitrov a “Cinderella candidate”, hinting that he can still make his dream come true after letting his ranking slip uncontrollably while dating Maria Sharapova.

The reporter wrote, “Grigor Dimitrov, seeded No. 17, has been struggling. But he's extremely talented and just 24 years old. He's lost some very close matches in recent weeks. To make matters worse, Dimitrov is in the same quarter as last year's Cinderella finalists… But the Bulgarian has the game to beat them both -- and everyone else as well.”

Let’s hope that the breakup with Maria Sharapova worked as a big wakeup call for the Bulgarian player.

On the other side of the arena, Maria Sharapova has been working hard to recover from her injury before the US Open 2015. She even withdrew from the CIncinnati Masters in hopes of healing her body.

According to the Guardian, “Maria Sharapova, struggling with a right leg strain less than a fortnight before the start of the US Open, withdrew from the Cincinnati Masters on Tuesday night. She was joined on the sick list by Venus Williams, who has a virus.”

The breakup must feel fresh for both Maria Sharapova and Grigor Dimitrov as it all happened just a few weeks ago. Maybe Grigor Dimitrov underperforming in the major tournaments was the major straw in their breakup.

According to E! Online, Grigor Dimitrov said that he wishes his ex girlfriend nothing but happiness as they go their own ways.

He said, "We experienced wonderful moments together. I wish her much happiness and success in life and in tennis. Now I'm concentrated entirely on the game and I'm sure the results will soon be seen…This is the summer of a new beginning for me.”
