'Show Me The Money' Chooses Season 4 Winner Following Fierce Rap Battle Between Song Mino And Basick

On August 28, WINNER's Mino (Song Min Ho) and Basick faced off in a fierce rap battle during the finale of "Show Me the Money 4." The episode was aired live and hashtags for the show and Mino trended worldwide on Twitter, during the broadcast.

Mino, who was a fan-favorite throughout the competition, maintained his hard-hitting flow during the delivery of the final round song, "Okey Dokey." He received assistance from Block B's Zico, as a member of Team ZiPal, but was not aided by artists from YG Entertainment.

Basick, who was part of a team comprised of Verbal Jint and San E performed "I'm the Man." He was joined by the Brand New Music rappers.

The next stage featured Basick with former-YG Entertainment vocalist, Gummy, for "Good Day." Mino followed with "Victim" and "Cheers."

However, the WINNER rapper failed to receive overwhelming support from the judges and crowd. Basick defeated Mino after receiving approximately $25,544 USD for his total performance versus $13,203 USD, respectively.

Basick was the recipient of the cash prize of approximately $84,621 USD or 100 million KRW.

A report published by the Korean outlet OSEN analyzed the performances of Mino and Basick. The writer emphasized the emotionality of lyrics that were present within the Mino tracks "Victim" and "Cheers," including one poignant phrase in the article. "I'm fine, I've shivered, I've overcome the pressure," rapped Mino.

Mino withstood criticism during "Show Me the Money 4" as an idol rapper who advanced beyond underground artists like Super Bee. Detractors delivered the strongest response against his performance on the series when he performed "Fear" with Big Bang's Taeyang, during the August 21 semi-final episode.

While his participation in "Show Me the Money 4" and subsequent win may have exposed new audiences to Basick, he has been on the radar of rap critics and K-hip-hop fans, for years. In 2013, he was recognized by the American hip-hop publication XXL as one of 15 Korean Rappers To Know Besides PSY.
