One Year After Tragedy: Remembering Ladies' Code's EunB And Rise

September 3, 2014 is engrained in the collective K-pop conscious as a day of tragedy that took the lives of two idols.

Go Eun Bi and Kwon Ri Se, known as Ladies' Code's EunB and RiSe, debuted in 2013 as K-pop idols. Their lives came to an end after a car accident resulted in EunB's death on Sept. 3 and RiSe's on Sept.7, but the K-pop world will remember them for their talent, their hard work, and their bright smiles.

Since their debut, Ladies' Code's style was a mix of electro-pop and retro elements and their powerful vocals. They followed up their first album in Sept. 2013 with "Code#02 Pretty Pretty," and the title song "Pretty Pretty," but throughout their career also released the singles "Hate You," "So Wonderful," and "Kiss Kiss."

Even though Ladies' Code never saw global success in the great, competitive world of K-pop, the group's distinct style gained accolades and led them to being heralded as a promising newcomer act to the industry in 2013.

Post mortem, EunB and RiSe were able to help Ladies' Code achieve their highest charting single, with fans promoting the song "I'm Fine Thank You" as a memorial to the pair.

Shortly after their passing, Ladies' Code's company, Polaris Entertainment, released a music video for "I'm Fine Thank You" that featured video of RiSe and EunB enjoying happier times and expressing their thanks and loves to fans in interviews that would turn into their final farewell.

On Thursday, Polaris Entertainment released a new version of "I'm Fine Thank You," featuring other artists singing the commemoration song on the anniversary of EunB's passing.

Prior to debuting with Ladies’ Code, RiSe was already popular after being the Korean-Japanese representative in Miss Korea 2009, and appearing on the television shows “Star Audition: The Great Birth” and “We Got Married,” paired with her fellow “Star Audition” contestant, David Oh.

While their time was short after debuting, fans were able to get to know EunB and Rise’s bright smiles and personalities through a variety of channels, including reality television and videos released by their company. RiSe and EunB were known to be particularly close with one another, and shared a room together during much of their career.

They are sorely missed.
