Boyfriend, 2PM Finding New Fame In Japan As Songs Are Chosen For TV Show Themes

K-Pop idols have long been famous in Japan and the groups spend a lot of time and effort on promotions and Japanese-language albums in the country. Recently they have been finding new fame in the television realm as their hits are lent to programs as themes songs.

Idol group Boyfriend is experiencing fantastic success on the music charts in Japan with their third Japanese single, "Hitomi no Melody (Melody of the Eyes)." The song was released on March 27 and flew to the top of the Oricon singles chart in just a matter of days.

Praise for the new single only increased after it was selected for the ending theme of the popular anime, Detective Conan. To date, Boyfriend is the only foreign artist to ever be featured as an anime theme song.

2PM also has been in the news this week as details for their long-awaited comeback single are slowly being revealed. It was announced on Friday that the new song, "Give Me Love" has been chosen to be the theme of a new Japanese drama, Take Five, set to premiere next month. The song and music video will be released at their Legend of 2PM concerts at the Japanese Tokyo Dome April 20 and 21.

As K-Pop groups continue to gain notoriety in Japan, we have seen an influx of appearances on the Japanese airwaves. Many idols have already acted in movies, television dramas, and reality shows in the island country to the East and it is somewhat common for them to sing songs for the soundtracks. But this new push forward, the groups themselves being showcased for their musical talents and given the coveted distinction as theme song, is a new trend we are definitely happy to see.

Here are the closing credits to Detective Conan featuring "Hitomi no Melody" by Boyfriend.
