YG Entertainment Hit-Makers Teddy And Kush Launch New Subsidiary Label

Taking steps to expand the K-pop industry, two of YG Entertainment's artists set up a new label.

On Sept 22, Korean media outlets reported that Teddy and Kush will set up a new label, under the auspices of YG Entertainment. Both Teddy and Kush made their artistic debuts as YG Entertainment artists and have produced multiple hits for the K-pop agency.

Teddy and Kush's agency is the second label set up by YG Entertainment staff this year, following the formation of Epik High Tablo's label, HIGHGRND.

A YG Entertainment rep told Newsen that the label will be an independent label.

"Like YG Entertainment artist Epik High's Tablo, who is operating the recently established the label HIGHGRND, Teddy and Kush's label will be run independently [of YG]," the rep said.

According to YG's rep, YG Entertainment CEO Yang Hyun Suk pushed forward and planned the establishment of Teddy and Kush's label to help junior musicians continue to grow in their careers and discover new talent.

Teddy debuted as the leader of YG Entertainment's hip-hop group 1TYM in 1998, while Kush debuted under the name S-Kush in 2003 as part of YG Entertainment's Stony Skunk, South Korea's first reggae duo.

The pair have produced multiple hit K-pop songs in the past, including songs performed by Big Bang and 2NE1. The two most recently gained attention for working on Big Bang's "MADE" album project. Kush worked alongside Big Bang's members to produce songs such as "We Like 2 Party," while Teddy had a role in all eight songs released by Big Bang since May 1, with the expection of "If You."
