Yang Hyun Suk Welcomes Investigation Upon JTBC's Accusations Of Music Chart Manipulation

On a recent episode of "Newsroom", JTBC went behind the scenes to discover how companies use 'sajaegi.'

'Sajaegi' is the practice of a company manipulating music rankings by buying their own artist's songs and albums or repeatedly streaming songs. It is a banned practice and companies caught using sajaegi can get in major trouble, even getting their artists banned from music shows.

They found out that sajaegi companies use hundreds of phones and thousands of fake IDs to make online accounts and stream songs of one artist on repeat.

By look at the blurred album on the show, netizens realized that it was the cover of iKON's album, which prompted an investigation into YG.

The CEO of YG Entertainment, Yang Hyun Suk, released an official statement today saying that he welcomes any investigation of sajaegi in his company.

"In the past, these kind of reports only caused suspicion of sajaegi," Yang began explaining. "If investigations are launched, I will support them however I can. In the past two years, there have been three cases of sajaegi investigations, but they led nowhere. I hope we can get a definitive result this time."

In addition, Yang mentioned that large agencies should be transparent so that illegal activities can be prevented.

According to him, iKON's recent rankings were simply due to the group's fans, not sajaegi. Many Korean netizens are of the opinion that the "Newsroom" report will put the spotlight on sajaegi and prompt investigators to find the offenders.
