K-Pop Headway to US with 2NE1, Girls Generation and Wonder Girls

K-Pop is entering the US market strongly with the top three entertainment agencies, JYP, SM and YG Entertainment, leading the way to release their albums one after another beginning this January.

JYP Wonder Girls began with their American single, “The DJ is Mine” releasing on January 11. Girls Generation plans to release “The Boys” special edition album in the US as well as Europe. To challenge the Billboard charts they will have the album available offline also through digital downloads. 2NE1 has been gathering attention collaborating with producer Will.I.Am to release soon.

The Wonder Girl’s TV movie “Wonder Girls at the Apollo” will air on Teen Nick in conjunction to an album on February 2.

Recently 2NE1 has caught the attention of the public as Will.I.Am posted on his Twitter account stating, “2NE1 is coming out crazy.” The group received “MTV Iggy’s Best New Band in the World” for 2011.

NRP back in December mentioned the ‘hallyu wave’ specifically regarding K-Pop’s advancement in America mentioning Girls Generation, 2NE1 and Wonder Girls.

As the popularity of K-Pop increased throughout the world, these three girl groups plan to take on the US market. The timing couldn’t be more perfect as attempts in the past haven’t yielded the desired results.
