BTS, MAMAMOO And EXID Shine At The Idol Star Athletics Championship

BTS, MAMAMOO, Nine Muses, and EXID demonstrated their sports prowess at the two-day event, the Idol Star Athletics Championship.

Held on the September 28 and 29 in honor of the mid-autumn holiday Chuseok, more than 16 top boy and girl groups came together for the friendly competition.

An article published by the Korean outlet, Star News, highlighted the athletic accomplishments of EXID, MAMAMOO, and BTS, who delivered breakout performances during the event.

"BTS (Bangtan), Nine Muses, Mamamoo, EXID, new athletic idols that shined in the IAC," wrote the reporter for Star News, praising the acts that demonstrated the best sports performance.

Here are some of the highlights from the September 29 competition.

In the men's 400 meter relay, BTS faced off against B1A4, Teen Top, and rookie group, Seventeen.

BTS defied the expectations of the audience and commentators when Jungkook broke out from the pack, clinching the win for his team.

Competitors in the women's 400-meter relay included members of A Pink, Oh My Girl, Dal Shabet and EXID.

EXID emerged as the victors in the race, after A Pink was disqualified for preemptively stepping on the starting line.

Sistar and 4Minute were overpowered by EXID and MAMAMOO, in women's archery.

MAMAMOO, one of the breakout groups of the past year, surged past the competition through the expert marksmanship of Wheein.

The event concluded with the team known as Who's Your CEO emerging as the victors. This group included members from BTS, Miss A, GOT7, Changmin, and several other acts.

The Idol Star Athletics Championship, like other sporting events involving members from K-pop groups, have drawn criticism from audiences, because the rigorous games often lead to injured idols. However, there were fewer reported injuries with this event.

Sporting events involving idols highlight the athletic competency of group members, particularly those who may go unnoticed on other forms of variety shows.

Comments on the Star News article and English responses on Netizen Buzz were overwhelmingly positive for the event.

"Mamamoo was good at archery, BTS (Bangtan) was good at running, Nine Muses and EXID did well too, good work to everyone," wrote a top voted commenter on the Star News article, as reposted by Netizenbuzz.
