Samsung Gear S2 Specs: How Does It Fare Against The Apple Watch; Is It Worth The Purchase?

Samsung Gear S2 looks like a promising piece of technology.

Wearable technology is booming these days. There are a number of different brands that are being introduced into the market claiming that they are the next “Apple Watch” or next big thing when it comes to wearable tech. However, none of the other wearable tech seems to make the cut.

The recently revealed Samsung Gear S2 looks like it is the Apple Watch’s newest rival. Samsung announced that the smartwatch would be available in the United States on Oct. 2, Friday.

According to The Verge, the Samsung Gear S2 comes in two versions. There is the sportier standard watch model that is priced at $299.99 and the classic model that is priced at $349.99. The “dressy” classic model is slightly smaller that the standard version and has a gun-metal finish with a ceramic bevel to give it a traditional look.

Very much like the Apple Watch, as reported on Mashable, the Gear 2 offers a number of different band and finish choices for a more customized look, it also includes a heart-rate sensor and even has microphones built in for features that require voice recognition.

Unlike the other wearable tech models in the market, Gear S2 runs on a smartwatch software that is built on Tizen as compared to Android Wear. This may become a hurdle for the smartwatch since Tizen OS does not support any of the available Android Wear apps that are available.

This would mean that app developers would have to start over with their apps in order to support the Gear S2 OS.

Samsung will start selling the sleek Samsung Gear S2 starting next month on Samsung’s online store and at Best Buy, Amazon and Macy’s.
