SM Entertainment Stars EXO's Lay And f(x) Member Krystal Land Lead Roles In Upcoming Chinese Movie

Two of SM Entertainment's most popular idols have been cast in an upcoming film in China.

Top hallyu stars Krystal Jung of f(x) and EXO member Lay (Zhang Yixing) have been cast as the main characters in a new Chinese movie titled "Biyeon."

Filming will begin at the end of 2015, but the movie is scheduled for release in China sometime during the second half of 2016.

The film will be financed by a Chinese company, but the director, Seong Si Heup, is Korean. The director, who is known for his film "The Plan Man," decided to cast Lay in the film because he is Chinese, which will make Chinese viewers feel like the movie is less of a foreign production.

In addition, SM Entertainment is one of the most popular entertainment companies in Korea, so having both Krystal and Lay in the movie provides a large boost for potential viewership and makes Chinese companies more likely to invest.

"The film's success is highly expected by investors, as the two stars, Lay and Krystal, have high profiles in the country," an SM spokesman said, according to the Korea Times.

SM Entertainment has stated that the two are currently preparing for their roles in the movie where they will portray a man and woman who find love and career success through dancing. Because of the idols' dancing experience on stage, they were reportedly the director's top choices for the film.

Around 40% of the movie will be shot in South Korea in the port city of Busan.
