YG Entertainment Clarifies iKON Logo Plagarism Concerns

YG Entertainment spoke up regarding a potential plagiarism scandal revolving around rookie K-pop idol group iKON.

Korean media outlets reported concerns that iKON's debut logo was plagiarized from a similar logo of a Korean bike brand but on Oct. 12 the group's agency, YG Entertainment, addressed the issue. YG Entertainment revealed that iKON's logo had been created last August, while the bike company, Unknown Bike Korea, created their logo in May.

Following YG Entertainment revealing the timeline of the creation of iKON's logo, Unknown Bike Korea retracted a previously released statement accusing the group of copying their logo.

The logos of both iKON and Unknown Bike Korea take inspiration from the South Korean flag, using the black marks of the Korean flag to create letters that represent their names.

On Oct. 12, YG Entertainment released a statement from its brand design team that included screenshots that showed the file of iKON's logo was created and modified as early as Aug. 29, 2014, over a year before the group's debut.

Unknown Bike Korea issued an apology to YG Entertainment regarding its previous statement.

iKON debuted on Oct. 1, with the first half of their debut album, "Welcome Back." The group will release the second half of their album in November.
