Twice And JYP Under Fire For Controversial School Uniform Ad

An online petition in South Korea was created criticizing an ad featuring the CEO of JYP Entertainment and the record label's next girl group.

The appearance of Park Jin Young, the founder and director of JYP Entertainment, and members of Twice, the company's soon-to-debut girl group, in an ad campaign for the Korean brand School Looks is under fire for sexualizing school uniforms.

The poster ad in question features content some have found to be sexually suggestive and an online petition was created to protest the images. The online petition creators took offense with what they say is the sexualization of school uniforms.

The School Looks ads featured Twice members wearing tight-fitting, short uniforms, and described the outfits advertised as "shading skirt" and "corset jacket." Park Jin Young is seen staring at the Twice members from behind sunglasses, dominating the image.

"The models in the posters more resemble Lolita fetish bar hostesses than 13 to 18-year-old school girls," wrote the creator of the petition according to the K-Pop Herald.

The petition called for social groups to take action against advertisements that use suggestive language and images to send the wrong message to young women.

"If we don't make an issue out of it, this will go unnoticed and unchallenged," said the petitioner.

Twice is JYP Entertainment's first girl group since the 2010 debut of miss A. Twice is made up of nine members and they have released multiple teaser images and videos for the soon to be released song, "Like OOH-AHH," which is set to drop on Oct. 20.
