BTS Wins Best Korean Act At 2015 MTV European Music Awards

BTS (Bangtan Boys) defeated B1A4, GOT7, VIXX and G-Friend to be named the Best Korean Act in the 2015 MTV European Music Awards (EMAs).

On October 16, the Korean outlet Xsports News announced BTS as the winners in the Korean division. The group advances to compete in the Worldwide Act Asia category, where they face-off against popular artists from Japan, China, and Vietnam.

In the Worldwide Act Asia division, BTS will compete with Taiwanese Mandopop sensation, Jay Chou, who critically acclaimed album, "Aiyo-Not Bad," served as a magnum opus for the accomplished star.

Six-member Japanese idol group, Dempagumi, Inc. are also included in the category, along with Chinese vocalist Jane Zhang, and Vietnamese rapper, Son Tung M-TP.

The winner of the Worldwide Act Asia division will compete against other international musicians for the coveted title of Best Worldwide Act. If they emerge as victorious the Worldwide Act Asia category, BTS could encounter stiff competition from other global performers, including the victor of the North American division, where Taylor Swift is currently competing against Justin Bieber.

Big Bang was the inaugural recipient of the Best Worldwide Act award, in 2011. However, Chinese artists have continued to reign over the category, with subsequent title holders including former Super Junior-M member Hangeng, who departed from K-pop to work within Mandopop.

Chinese female vocalists followed the success of Hangeng, with Chris Lee defeating EXO in 2013 while Bibi Zhou triumphed over B.A.P, One Direction, and 5 Seconds of Summer, in 2014.

Fans can vote for BTS through the English-language poll hosted by the MTV EMA website. The Best Worldwide Act will be announced during the MTV European Music Awards on October 25.
