6 K-Pop Stars Who Make A Killing In Real Estate

Many Korean entertainers run side businesses separate from their lives in the public eye - owning establishments like resaturants, cafes and dance studios. Some K-pop idols have gone above and beyond of the norm with lucrative real estate investments.

On Thursday, the Korean Herald explored the wealth of several young Korean actors and singers. Six K-pop idols, including two members from the same girl group, reportedly have done well in their real estate ventures.

Members of Kara, Big Bang, 2AM, JYJ, and soloist Jay Park all appeared on the list.

Kara's Han Seungyeon reportedly owns a five-story building in one of Korea's most expensive areas of Seoul, located in the Gangnam neighborhood of Cheongdamdong. The building was bought last year for around $3.9 million USD, and is being renovated. It is expected that the building will earn around $17 million in rent.

Seungyeon's fellow Kara member, Goo Hara, also owns a building in Cheongdamdong, which she bought in 2012. The building, which hosts a cafe and a nail salon, was reportedly bought for $1 million USD.

Soloist Jay Park, 2AM's Lee Changmin, and Big Bang's G-Dragon each also own buildings that house cafes.

In 2014, Jay Park opened a franchise of the Dudart Cafe chain on Apgujeong Rodeo, a popular shopping street in Seoul. He runs the cafe with his family, and it has been used on occasion for fan signing events.

Lee Changmin, known for being a member of ballad group 2AM and part of the duo Homme, also has a cafe, The Min's, near Apgujeong Rodeo. The cafe is run by Changmin's parents, and the K-Pop Herald reports that Changmin's label mates BTS spend time at the cafe.

Big Bang's G-Dragon is set to open a cafe, Cafe Contestant de Aewol, on Korea's Jeju Island on Oct. 20. Although the cafe is not yet open, it has been referred to as "GD Cafe," according to the report, and has already garnered much attention.

Last, but not least, JYJ's XIA Junsu opened a resort on Jeju in 2014. The Jeju Toscana Hotel is a luxory resort that Junsu reportedly invested $24.4 million USD to open. The picturesque resort was featured in the 2015 KBS TV drama, "Warm and Cozy."

The report focused on highlighting the stars who have made the most of their earnings, but concluded by mentioning other Korean stars who own businesses.
