The latest news that NASA has discovered a star with "unusual" behavior suggests that aliens just might exist.

NASA's Kepler space telescope has discovered KIC 8462852, a star 1,500 light years away from earth, which has been emitting strange signals, reported The Telegraph.

The Kepler telescope is capable of locating habitable earth-sized planets by observing the dips in light of a star caused by a planet moving around it.

The regular dips in light detected in KIC 8462852 could therefore be caused by a new planet outside the earth's solar system.

Among the 150,000 planets being monitored by NASA, however, none of them have dimmed as much as KIC 8462852.

A planet would normally cause a star's light to dim by one or two percentage points.

KIC 8462852's light drops by up to 20 percent at random intervals, which may suggest that the cause of the dimming is not just a planet.

Dr. Stuart Clark. an astronomer from Penn State University, noted that the unusual star's light pattern is consistent with a "swarm of megastructures," raising the possibility that aliens might just be around the bend based on the latest NASA discovery, reported The Atlantic.

"Aliens should always be the very last hypothesis you consider, but this looked like something you would expect an alien civilization to build," Clark said.

Tabetha Boyajian of Yale University has published a paper describing the star's bizarre light pattern.

Boyajian's paper explores a number of possible scenarios which might explain the unusual pattern which include instrument defects; shrapnel from an asteroid belt pileup; or an impact of planetary scale, like the one which created our moon.

"We'd never seen anything like this star," said Boyajian. "It was really weird. We thought it might be bad data or movement on the spacecraft, but everything checked out."

The lady scientist said that her paper is only looking at natural scenarios, but quickly added that was also considering "other scenarios."

Boyajian is now collaborating with Wright and Andrew Siemion of the SETI Research Center at University of California, Berkeley to develop a proposal that will point a massive radio dish at the unusual star in order to find out if it emits radio waves at frequencies associated with technological activity.

In the meantime, the world waits with bated breath as NASA releases news updates which further strengthens the belief that aliens do exist.
