Super Junior Member Siwon's Impending Military Service Impacts 'She Was Pretty' Extension

"She Was Pretty" is one of the most popular K-Dramas of 2015, but the series will not be extended beyond its previously scheduled 16-episode run. While is it customary for popular Korean dramas to receive an extension, the MBC romantic comedy is impacted by the impending military enlistment date of Choi Siwon.

On October 21, Sports Chosun explored the reasons behind MBC's decision to conclude "She Was Pretty" with episode 16, as opposed to extending the series by two or more episodes.

"Since the popularity of [She Was Pretty] was high, we naturally discussed extending the drama," said a representative for the production, in a statement obtained by Sports Chosun. "However, 'She Was Pretty' ends ahead of Choi Siwon's military service."

As noted by the production spokesperson, the popular Super Junior member, who portrays the popular character Kim Shin Hyuk, is slated to enlist as a conscripted policeman on November 19.

"She Was Pretty" is currently scheduled to conclude on November 11. However, the progression of episodes was disrupted on October 14, when the ninth episode was unable to air, due to the 2015 Korean Baseball Organization playoffs.

The series premiered with lackluster ratings of 4.8 percent on September 16, as it aired opposite the juggernaut, "Yong Pal." However, the conclusion of "Yong Pal" heralded the phenomenon that domestic audiences refer to as "She Was Pretty" syndrome, as the drama continues to generate double-digit ratings.

Sports Chosun went on to tease readers with details about episodes 10 and 11. After believing that Kim Hye Jin (Hwang Jung Eum) was severely injured in an accident, Ji Sung Joon (Park Seo Joon), expresses his romantic feelings towards his high school friend. However, Kim Shin Hyuk (Choi Siwon) is prepared to show Hye Jin that he is the best man for her.
