Super Junior's Siwon Continues To Drive Viewership Of 'She Was Pretty'

Super Junior's Choi Siwon is experiencing a resurgence in his popularity prior to his November 2015 military enlistment, due to the success of his portrayal of Kim Shin Hyuk in MBC's breakout hit, "She Was Pretty."

"I do not think Jackson can just be a friend," said Siwon, as Shin Hyuk, in episode 11 of the series.

While Siwon was a contemptuous and self-absorbed Hallyu star in the 2012 series, "King of Dramas," he adopts a warm and personable role in "She Was Pretty" Shin Hyuk is an off-kilter character who refers to the woman he likes as Jackson while attempting to infuse an easy-going atmosphere into the workplace.

Siwon delivers a stellar performance, in one of his best roles to date, transforming the personality of Shin Hyuk into one of the most likable second male leads of 2015.

"She Was Pretty" continues to attract new audiences, with the series recording higher ratings, as the storyline progresses. According to Nielsen Korea, the 10th episode of the drama captured the interest of 17.3 percent of nationwide viewers, reflecting an increase of 0.6 percent.

The drama premiered on September 16 with lackluster ratings, as it aired against the juggernaut medical drama, "Yong Pal." However, the presence of Siwon, along with "Kill Me, Heal Me" co-stars Hwang Jung Eum and Park Seo Joon generated non-stop buzz for the quirky romantic comedy.

Fervent K-Drama fans were infuriated when the ninth episode was postponed on October 14 due to the Korean Baseball Organization (KBO) playoffs.

According to a report published by The Korea Times, the overwhelming response from drama viewers influenced executives at MBC to make the difficult decision of choosing to air "She Was Pretty," instead of the KBO playoffs.

"It is very likely 'She Was Pretty' will air tonight and the baseball game will go uncovered," said a staff member at MBC.

Their decision clearly paid off, as the series recorded its highest ratings to date with its October 21 episode, taking second place against Wednesday prime time programming.
