Super Junior's Siwon Becomes 1st Korean To Gain 5 Million Followers On Twitter

Super Junior's Choi Siwon just became the first Korean to achieve a huge Twitter milestone.

On Wednesday, the official Twitter account for South Korea revealed that the Super Junior member was the first Korean to ever gain five million followers on the social media site. The K-pop idol expressed his thanks through a video, thanking fans for following him and expressing their love throughout the years.

The accomplishment cements Siwon's place as one of South Korea's most popular young celebrities.

Siwon debuted as a member of SM Entertainment's boy group Super Junior in 2005 and made waves for his handsome appearance.

Over the past ten years as a K-pop idol, Siwon has continuously gained popularity due to his activities as a K-pop and as an actor. His roll in the currently airing Korean television drama "She Was Pretty" has garnered the idol much attention for his acting.

Along with acting in Korean dramas and films, Siwon has appeared in Chinese films and television series.

Twitter awarded Siwon with a plaque commemorating his five million followers.

Siwon opened the account on March 25, 2010, and previously had the most followers in South Korea in 2011.

The acting-idol will enlist in the Korean military on Nov. 19, serving as a conscripted police officer to fulfill his mandatory service. Siwon will appear in the final episode of "She Was Pretty" on Nov. 11.
