Elena Gilbert fans have been hit by rumors that Nina Dobrev may seemingly come back on "The Vampire Diaries" soon after Paul Wesley revealed recently how important she was on the series. Now, the latest news revealed a plot twist is underway.

In an interview with the Irish Examiner, both Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder once again talked about the impact of Elena Gilbert on the story and how changes will be happening after her death of sorts in season 6.

"Elena's gone, so there's going to be a natural shift in the show," Paul Wesley told the source above. "The original triangle of Damon, Stefan and Elena is what made the show a big hit and it brought the fans -- but we don't want the fans to leave. The show needs a fresh spin, so it feels like a fortuitous opportunity to do something new."

Ian Somerhalder also said that to achieve this, the show will be taking a leaf from the early seasons of the TV series.

"This is Mystic Falls without Elena Gilbert, so we want to go back to the storytelling of season one and season two, which was fun, sexy and volatile," Ian Somerhalder explained. "We just want to go back to the human side of the show and tell some really great stories -- and not compromise."

The latest news on Nina Dobrev's rumored "The Vampire Diaries" return surfaced when Paul Wesley said they were keeping her character Elena Gilbert's body safe for when she suddenly wakes up.

"Her body's in danger in the first few episodes, and Damon is doing everything he can to make sure it stays safe if and when she wakes up," Wesley pointed out to TV Insider.

Dobrev has already reiterated last month that she's over the TV series and was interested on doing more challenging roles. Talking to InStyle recently, she even said she'll be saying goodbye to her long hair for her next role.

"I'm going to be cutting my hair for my next role," Nina Dobrev spilled on the latest news about her after "The Vampire Diaries". "I'm doing a movie that I haven't announced yet, so I can't talk about it, but we're going to be cutting my hair for that."
