Fans Gather To Remember Shin Hae Chul On 1st Anniversary Of Rock Legend's Controversial Death

Showing how loved and influential he was in life, Shin Hae Chul was commemorated by fans and loved ones on October 27, exactly a year after his tragic death.

Fans attended the remembrance event held at the Utopia Memorial in Anseong, a city south of Seoul, reports The Korea Times, with some even writing messages dedicated to the singer.

Meanwhile, the rock singer's wife Yoon Won Hee also talked with JTBC's Newsroom and shared several fond memories when asked by the anchor: "How would you want us to remember Shin Hae Chul?"

"My husband was a person who had a warm innocence in his heart but also an open heart that bore in mind those who were always excluded," Yoon Won Hee reportedly said.

"He put those aspects freely into his music and relayed that to a lot of people. His fans knew that, so there were even 30,000 people who came to his funeral. You just need to remember him as a warm-hearted musician."

One of the pioneers of Korean rock music, Shin Hae Chul died due to complications after his surgery late last year. A police investigation then concluded that the doctor who operated on the singer was found negligent for failing to address the singer's complications. This led his family to file a $1.9 million medical malpractice lawsuit.
