Robert Downey Jr. No Longer Iron Man? Armored Avenger Actor Talks Contract, ‘Iron Man 3’ With Jon Stewart [VIDEO]

Just a few days before Iron Man 3 is released to American audiences, Robert Downey Jr. revealed that he is negotiating his appearance in future films within the Marvel/Disney franchise.

Robert Downey Jr., who played the armored superhero Tony Stark in last summer's Avengers and the soon to be released Iron Man 3, spoke to Jon Stewart on The Daily Show on April 31. Downy Jr. told Stewart that he's not sure if he'll do another Iron Man film.

"I don't know. I had a long contract with them and now we're gonna renegotiate," the actor told the 'news' host.

Important to note is that the sassy actor winked just when he said that he was renegotiating his contract, so the comment should be taken with a grain of salt.

Thankfully, Robert Downey Jr. has already been confirmed to return to Avengers 2, so it's likely that the actor is just messing with us.

Iron Man 3 has already been released internationally, smashing box office numbers. The film has made history for Marvel and Disney, earning them $195.3 million internationally.

Reviews after the advance screening of the film have been positive thus far. Most of the success of the film has been attributed to the actor who plays the superhero genius billionaire. The Daily Beast wrote that the reason Tony Stark has become the most popular superhero in the 'superhero' genre "can be chalked up to one thing: the quippy brilliance of Robert Downey Jr."

The publication notes that significant credit should be given to the director of the film, Shane Black, who worked with Downey Jr. in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang to bring the actor's witty and arrogant personality to the forefront, helping to revive Robert Downey Jr.'s career.

Iron Man 3 hits theaters in North America on Friday, May 3.
