Hallyu 101: The Secondary Agencies (Cube Entertainment and Mnet Media)

Hallyu 101 previously gave you a run-down of the Big Three, the largest and most powerful entertainment agencies in South Korea. But there are a lot more out there and both Cube Entertainment and Mnet Media (Core Contents Media and FNC Entertainment) are ready to fight their way to the top.

Cube Entertainment

When JYP Entertainment's former president, Hong Seung-Sung, decided to branch out and start his own company, many people mistakingly thought Cube Entertainment was counted among JYP's subsidiaries. But in only five short years, Hong has proven that Cube is a force to be reckoned with.

Often considered to be just as powerful as the Big Three, Cube Entertainment now has two subsidiaries of its own, A Cube and Cube DC, and manages a host of popular K-Pop acts.

Songs to know:

4Minute - “Hot Issue” (2009) For Muzik

Mnet Media is a giant entertainment conglomerate that includes both Core Contents Media and FNC Entertainment, making it one of the most powerful agencies in South Korea.

FNC Entertainment alone has record sales on par with the Big Three agencies, with their wildly popular acts CNBLUE and FT Island. And that earning power together with Core Content's T-ARA and Coed School (and their various sub-units), and you've got yourself and agency with some major earning potential.

In addition to managing the aforementioned acts, Mnet Media also produces, broadcasts, and distributes music and other entertainment forms.
