Margaret Cho's Korean Spa Discrimination Over Tattoos Makes the Comedienne Furious, Shares Her Rage On A Blog

Margaret Cho's Korean spa displeasing moment made the singer share her outrage about it on her blog at Jezebel.com.

In the blog, Margaret Cho Korean spa experience was discussed, as she talked about how she was treated in a Korean Spa that is located in Los Angeles. Cho felt discriminated by Korean workers of the LA spa when she was asked to cover her tattoos, which are located all over her body. Other patrons were not asked to cover up.

The 44-year-old fashion designer was asked by a staff to wear a robe to cover up all her ink because according to them, it upset and offended other clients present in the spa.

The comedienne wrote, "[The employee] asked if I could please wear something, anything- a towel or something- and cover myself so that I wouldn't frighten anyone with my body."

However, when Cho told the spa worker her name, a staff member from the Aroma Spa immediately and repeatedly apologized, offering free services to compensate for what they have done.

The staff explained that her tattooed body was distressing everybody in the spa because it is considered a taboo concept in the Korean culture. Cho decided that it was time to leave when after she had complied with the request to cover up, she was still given discriminating looks by the Koreans. Cho described the look as "heavy duty Korean woman stink eye."

The comedienne told the spa, "Korean culture is one thing, but this place is in Los Angeles. We are not in Korea right now. This is America."

"It's not like I enjoyed looking at their bodies that much. These were all women of various sizes and shapes and some, like me, bore the marks of a difficult life," Cho continued.

Why get tattoos? In an interview she had with Inked Magazine, Margaret Cho said that she decided to have ink covering her body so that when she's already 70, people will not be looking at her wrinkles but at her tattoos instead.

But Cho isn't taking the event to heart; according to reports, Cho has added the L.A. Korean Spa discrimination over her tattoos to her comedy act.
