New Record: TSA Seizes 54 Loaded Guns At Airports This Week

The Transportation Security Administration found 65 guns in carry-on luggage last week at airport security checkpoints, a new record. A few weeks ago, the previous record was set at 50 firearms found, 45 of which were loaded.

Of the 65 guns found last week, 54 were loaded.

A firearm was found strapped to the prosthetic leg of a passenger at Salt Lake City International Airport, NBC reports. During the pat-down, officers discovered a fully loaded .22 caliber firearm inside the passenger's boot and attached to his prosthetic leg. The man was arrested on the state charge of "carrying a concealed weapon in a secure area."

Five guns were found at both Atlanta and Dallas-Fort Worth airports, United Press International reports. Three were loaded at both airports.

TSA agents also found 12 stun guns, inert grenades, realistic replicas, razor blades, ammunition, and "a lot of sharp pointy things," UPI reports. Even an unloaded musket was seized at Orland International Airport.

AAA, the transportation lobbying group, estimates that 2.3 million travelers are expected to fly during the Memorial Day weekend, The Examiner reports.
