MONSTA X Launches Sophomore Japanese Album, ‘Phenomenon’

On August 21, K-pop heavyweight MONSTA X dropped “Phenomenon,” their sophomore Japanese effort.

In their newest offering, members Shownu, Wonho, Minhyuk, Kihyun, Hyungwon, Joohoney, and I.M. showcase their musicality through three new tracks fronted by the pre-released “X-Phenomenon.” The other two new songs are “Carry on” and “My Beast.”

“X-Phenomenon,” was first dropped earlier in July. And this banger is a pop masterpiece that will engage listeners on a full-blast K-pop listening experience. The song’s music video is equally laudable, thanks to its top-notch cinematography and production.

Apart from the said tunes, the album also includes Japanese versions of their songs “Shoot Out” and “Alligator.” Completing the tracklist are “Black Swan,” “Livin’ It Up,” “Flash Back,” and “Swish.”

To offer diversified options to Japanese fans or Monbebes, the album is available in three versions, each containing a bonus track that the members themselves have arranged, composed, and penned.

The first one includes the song “Champagne,” as interpreted by I.M. The second one has the Wonho-composed piece “Polaroid,” while the last one features Joohoney’s “Thriller.”

“Phenomenon,” the album, is the long-awaited follow up to their debut Japanese release called “Piece,” unveiled in April last year.

Though their first album in the country was launched in 2018, MONSTA X has already made its debut in Japan back in May 2017. The group’s Japanese releases are handled by Mercury Records Tokyo.

Making a strong debut, their Japanese single “Hero” peaked at the second spot of the Oricon Weekly Single Chart. Their album “Piece,” on the other hand, also made waves as it hit the 3rd spot of the Oricon Weekly Album Chart.

MONSTA X has recently concluded their “We Are Here” world tour in promotion of their latest Korean album “Take.2 We Are Here.” Kicking off in Seoul last April, the concert series has been staged in different areas like Bangkok, Sydney, Melbourne, Kuala Lumpur, Madrid, Amsterdam, Paris, London, Berlin, Sao Paulo, Mexico City, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, New York, Chicago, and lastly, in Los Angeles.
