The Bangtan Boys did it again!

After bagging accolades from the Teen Choice Awards held earlier this month, K-pop superstar BTS has once again made K-pop fans proud with their latest achievement.

On August 27 (August 26 in the US), the phenomenal boy band received the Best Group and Best K-pop Awards during the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards.

On the Best Group category, the seven-piece K-pop troupe beat other global music acts including ‘90s icon Backstreet Boys, the recently-reunited Jonas Brothers, fellow K-pop group Blackpink, Australian pop-rock outfit 5 Seconds of Summer, American boy bands Why Don’t We and PrettyMuch, and Latino stars CNCO.

For the Best K-pop tilt, the group earned the VMA win with their hit collaborative track with Halsey, “Boy With Luv.” They bested strong contenders like Blackpink’s “Kill This Love,” EXO’s “Tempo,” “Monsta X’s “Who Do You Love” (featuring French Montana), NCT 127’s “Regular,” and TXT’s “Cat & Dog.”

This is the first time that the VMAs have given both awards, making BTS’ victory an important moment in the award-giving body’s 34-year history.

BTS got two more nominations, including Best Art Direction and Best Choreography. The awards eventually went to Ariana Grande’s “7 Rings” and Rosalia and J Balvin’s “Con Altura,” respectively.

While they made historic wins, BTS members were not able to attend the show as they are currently on their extended break.

In a statement released by their agency Big Hit Entertainment, the group went on a temporary hiatus to pave way for their “official and extended period of rest and relaxation.”

A first since debuting in 2013, the company shared that “this period of rest will be an opportunity for the members of BTS -- who have relentlessly driven themselves towards their goal… -- to recharge and prepare to present themselves anew as musicians and creators.”

“This will also provide them with a chance to enjoy the ordinary lives of young people in their 20s, albeit briefly,” the statement further noted.

Their last album release, “Map of the Soul: Persona,” was recently certified by the Recording Industry Association of America as gold after selling 500,000 units in the country.
