What began as a celebration ended in tragedy for a party bus group and 43-year-old Raul Padilla, the driver who hit said bus, resulting in the death of his wife, Sarah Klein.

According to Fox News, Padilla and Klein had "consumed alcohol" before their Honda vehicle slammed into a center divider on U.S. 101 in Redwood City. Toxicology tests will be administered to see if Padilla was fit to drive.

"If it is determined he was under the influence, he could face felony DUI charges and manslaughter charges," said California Highway Patrol Officer Art Montiel.

After coming to a stop facing oncoming traffic, the party bus housing 18 passengers collided with the couple. Two other vehicles were involved in the accident but no one was hurt from either car.

"We're still trying to figure out who came into contact with what," Montiel added.

Klein, 36, was not wearing her seatbelt, reported USA Today.

Padilla himself, however, wore his seatbelt and is currently hospitalized and in critical condition.

Klein is reportedly a burlesque dancer who goes by the name Sparkly Devil for the Bay Area's Hubba Hubba Revue troupe.

"She was probably one of the greatest comedic burlesque performers I've ever seen," said Hubba Hubba producer Jim Sweeney to Daily News.

Nine people from the party bus sustained minor-to-moderate injuries, although it is undetermined if any were wearing seatbelts at the time.

Bus passengers, however, are not legally required to wear seatbelts, affirmed Montiel.

The party bus has been taken to an impound lot and the investigations continue for the reasons Padilla lost control of his vehicle.

Drivers and motorists are regularly fined for not wearing seatbelts according to the Wisconsin Radio Network.

The issue is currently a hot topic due to the annual "Click It or Ticket" safety campaign. The campaign, which began in 1993, specifically targets young people to wear their seatbelts.
