Canadians Claim $100 Bills Are Maple Syrup Scented -- Smells Delicious?

A lot of Canadians believe that the new $100 bills are maple syrup scented.

Many people actually think that the rumor is true regarding the new bank notes released by the money ministry of Canada - that the new bills were intentionally infused with the scent of the maple syrup. Because of these kinds of issues circulating, the Information Commissioner of Canada was asked to look into it.

The telltale began quickly when the first set of new $100 bills were released back in November 2011. Bank of Canada received various queries about the money smelling like maple syrup. One inquiry was, "I would like to know ... once and for all if these bills are in fact scented, as I do detect a hint of maple when smelling the bill."

The new $100 Bills maple syrup scented allegedly are now made of polymer, replacing the paper bills by this year. The new bills are regarded indestructible and authorities said that these polymer bills are "possibly impossible to duplicate."

But what led many to believe these kinds of rumors other than what their sense of smell are suggesting? Well, recently, a Canadian botanist named Sean Blaney stated that the new bills for $20, $50 and $100 denomination were featuring a foreign Norway maple leaf  and not the sugar maple leaf found everywhere in the country. But a spokesperson from the Bank of Canada claimed that the species of maple leaf used for the new currency is not intended to represent a particular strain of maple.

But the Bank of Canada said that there is no truth to this rumor that the newly released bank notes such as $100 Bills are Maple Syrup Scented

These new plastic polymer bills were first released two years ago and the issue has been going around since then. Furthermore, Canada has been subjected to a lot of headlines over the past years because of their eccentric stories with their currency. In March 2012, Bank of Canada made announcement that they are planning to pull out from circulation the Canadian pennies. A month later, the institution said that they released glow-in-the dark dinosaur coin but only as a limited edition.
