BTS and BLACKPINK among the 12 Most Viewed Musical Acts on YouTube

Overseas music charts aggregator kworb.net has compiled the top artists with the most YouTube views this 2020. Among the top 12 artists listed, BTS and BLACKPINK ranked within the top 5. Keep on reading to learn more.

According to the data, BTS is the most-viewed musical act on the platform, garnering 6.19 billion views this year as of Monday, Dec. 21. BLACKPINK, who gained 4.56 billion views this year, ranked third on the rankings. They are the only K-pop groups to make the top 12.

Previously, BTS made headlines for breaking the record for most concurrent viewers for the video premiere of "Dynamite" with 3 million peak concurrent viewers, beating out BLACKPINK's record of 1.66 million views. They also broke the record for the fastest YouTube video to reach 10 million views, reaching the number after only 20 minutes of its release. It subsequently broke the record for most-viewed YouTube video in the first 24 hours, garnering over 101.1 million views and breaking three new Guinness World Records - most viewed YouTube video in 24 hours, most viewed YouTube music video in 24 hours, and most-viewed YouTube music video in 24 hours by a K-pop group.

Additionally, the music video for "Dynamite" is the fastest in YouTube history to surpass 200 million views, doing so in just four days and twelve hours after it dropped. It is also the fasted to surpass 400 million views, doing so 35 days after its release. It crossed 600 million views back on Nov. 16, just 27 days after the music video passed 500 million views. Currently, "Dynamite" as 711 million views.

BTS's most-viewed music video, however, is "DNA", which was released in Sept. 2017. At the time of its release, it was the most viewed video in 24 hours by a K-pop group with 22 million views. Back in June, it surpassed one billion views, making it the first BTS music video to do so. It currently has 1.1 billion views.

Back in June, BLACKPINK made headlines following the release of "How You Like That". At the time of its release, it was the most-streamed music video premiere on the platform, with it reaching 1.66 million concurrent viewers at its peak. It also broke the record for the most viewed music video within the first 24 hours of its release at the time with 86.3 million views and was the fastest to hit 100 million views, doing so 32 hours after the drop of the music video. BTS's music video for "Dynamite" later broke those records. On Oct. 21, the music video surpassed 600 million views. Currently, "How You Like That" has 703 million views.

BLACKPINK's most-viewed music video "DDU-DU DDU-DU", which was released in June 2018. At the time of its release, it was the most viewed music video in the first 24 hours by a K-pop group and the second most-watched music video of all time within 24 hours of its release with 36.2 million views. The music video hit 100 million views in just 10 days and reached 500 million views five months after its release. In Jan. 2019, it hit 500 million views, and by Nov. 2019, it had hit 1 billion views. Currently, it has 1.4 billion views.

Other than K-pop, reggaeton was also a popular music genre on YouTube, according to the data. The genre gained fame in Panama and Puerto Rico in the 1980s, though the genre has been around since the 1970s. It was originally known as "Reggae in Spanish". Sitting between BTS and BLACKPINK is Puerto Rico's Bad Bunny with 5.5 billion views.

Other notable artists who made the list include Billie Eilish, Justin Bieber, and Ed Sheeran.
