Erratum: Girls' Generation is not coming back in August 2021.

KpopStarz would like to clarify that the phenomenal South Korean girl group is not returning to the music scene as what we have previously reported. We believe that part of responsible journalism is admitting mistake and humbly correcting it for our readers.

We confirm that there would be no fan meeting happening on Aug. 5, 2020 at 7 p.m. in the Olympic Hall in Seoul Olympic Park. Furthermore, Im Yoon Ah, Taeyeon, Kwon Yuri, Hyoyeon, and Sunny would not be releasing a new album in line with their anniversary celebrations.

It is true, however, that in December 2020, Girls' Generation member Sooyoung hinted at the possible return of the South Korean girl group during an appearance on Gayo Plaza Eun Ji and Apink member Eunji are the hosts. The "Girls" singer, who temporarily replaced Eunji at the time, stated that she and the other members of the group would greet their avid followers very soon.

Seohyun, also, gave a hint in February 2020 through an Instagram story. The Girls' Generation member shared a breathtaking photo of a stream with a caption mentioning "the thing" that everyone has been waiting for in so long. Initially, many followers of the "Oh!" hitmaker thought she was referring to her "Hello Dracula" drama, where she portrayed a lesbian role.

However, Seohyun sent her followers into a frenzy when she confirmed that she was not talking about the drama in her post. Eagle-eyed fans even noticed Taeyeon sitting near acoustic panels in an Instagram story video she posted a few days after Seohyun's trending post.

Fans, then, started speculating that Taeyeon could be recording a new set of tracks with the other members of Girls' Generation such as Im Yoon Ah, Kwon Yuri, Hyoyeon, and Sunny. While there is a possibility that the group would comeback in the near future, it should be noted that SM Entertainment has not released any official statement about their rumored return up to this writing. So, everything should be taken with a huge grain of salt until these speculations are proven true and correct.

For starters, Girls' Generation, also known as SNSD, was launched with their debut album track "Into the New World," released August 2007. The all-girl band became more popular when they released their song called "Gee" in 2009.

At the time, the track landed the girls on the KBS' Music Bank as it dominated the tally for nine straight weeks. "Gee" by Girls' Generation was even pronounced as Melon's most popular song of the 2000s. The group followed up their chart-topping hits with other trending tracks such as "Run Devil Run," Oh!" and "Genie."

Originally, Girls' Generation was composed of nine members, including Seohyun, Yoona, Soyoung, Yuri, Hyonteon, Tiffany, Sunny, Jessica and Taeyeon. However, Jessica shocked everyone when she decided to depart from the group in September 2014. Seoyhun, Sooyoung and Tiffany also left SM Entertainment in October 2017. However, it remains to be seen if they are still considered as members of the phenomenal all-girl group.
