Wonho to Make His First Comeback This Year with New Mini-Album

Wonho is gearing up to make his first comeback this year!

On Wednesday, Feb. 3, Wonho took to his official SNS accounts to share the exciting news to fans all over the world. He uploaded a teaser photo that comes with the title "LOVE SYNONYM" and shows one hand touching the flowers. Based on the picture, the male idol will be releasing the second part of his first mini-album, which is titled "Love Synonym: Part 2: Right for Us" on Feb. 26.

 

Previously, it was reported that the upcoming mini-album will include the fan song, "Flash," which Wonho performed for the first time at his first online solo concert "#IWONHOYOU" that took place in September last year.

Wonho's First Solo Song

His upcoming mini-album will be his first work in five months since his first extended play (EP), "Love Synonym Pt. 1: Right for Me," which marked his solo debut. An English-language track, titled "Losing You," was released before the EP. This song received praises as it showcases Wonho's all-around musicality, including his vocals and his participation in songwriting, composing, and producing of music.

Dropped on Aug. 14, "Losing You" is a pop R&B track consisting of lyrics that convey a message of love and gratitude towards his fans. Upon release, his solo song rose to the top of iTunes charts in different countries across the globe. After two days, the single hit No. 1 on iTunes Top K-pop Songs charts in at least 16 various nations including the United States, the United Kingdom, Malaysia, Switzerland, and Norway.

Wonho's "Losing You" also made it to the top 10 in 14 additional countries including Hong Kong, Germany, Canada, and Italy. It even ranked No. 20 on iTunes' overall Top Songs chart in the US.

Wonho's First Solo Album

On Sept. 4, Wonho made his official solo debut with the release of "Love Synonym Pt. 1: Right for Me." It contains eight tracks including "Losing You" and the title track "Open Mind." Like in the production of "Losing You," the male idol also took part in writing Open Mind."

For the week ending on Sept. 19, Wonho's first solo album entered Billboard's World Albums chart, securing the No. 9 position. The album also entered other charts on Billboard, hitting No. 19 on the Heatseekers Album chart and No.81 on the Album Sales chart. It also ranked first on iTunes' Worldwide Album and Top K-pop Album charts. Meanwhile, the title track "Open Mind" entered Billboard's World Digital Single Sales chart, claiming the No. 4 spot.

Wonho's Debut and Departure from MONSTA X

Wonho first debuted in the K-pop scene as one of the members of Starship Entertainment's hip-hop boy group called MONSTA X in May 2015. He was a vocalist of the band until late 2019, and starting in 2017, actively took part in writing, composing, and arranging songs for the septet. He left the group and agency in October 2019 following the accusations surrounding him, which concerns the illegal use of marijuana when he was younger. In March 2020, Wonho has been cleared of all allegations and the rumors were proven false.
