BTS Breaks Record of PSY's 'Gangnam Style' on Billboard Hot 100 with 'Dynamite'

BTS has set a new record on the famous Billboard chart for K-pop acts! In particular, BTS' "Dynamite" has broken the record of PSY's "Gangnam Style" on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The Billboard Hot 100 is a record chart in the United States that ranks songs based on sales (digital and physical), online streaming, and radio airplay in the country. Every week, Billboard magazine reveals the rankings of releases of different genres by artists from different countries.

BTS' "Dynamite" Surpasses Record of PSY's "Gangnam Style" on Billboard Hot 100

On April 6, Billboard revealed the latest rankings of all the charts dated April 10, and according to the newest Hot 100 chart, BTS ranked 30th with their English-language hit "Dynamite." It is the only K-pop song to enter this week's Billboard Hot 100.

Last week, BTS's "Dynamite" was in 26th place. Although the track dropped four spots, "Dynamite" has still made history, breaking and setting a new record for Korean acts.

"Dynamite," which ranked No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 three times, succeeded in charting for a total of 32 weeks since it was released in August 2020. The BTS song is now the longest-charting K-pop single on the said chart, breaking the record of PSY's "Gangnam Style."

PSY's "Gangnam Style," which dominated numerous major charts and took the world by storm right after its release in July 2012, lasted on the Billboard Hot 100 for 31 weeks. BTS has now surpassed that record after eight years since the last entry of "Gangnam Style" on the Billboard chart.

BTS' "Dynamite" Becomes the Longest-Running Song at No .1 on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales Chart

Apart from being the longest-ranking K-pop song on Billboard Hot 100, BTS's "Dynamite" has also become the longest-running song by any artist at No. 1 on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart.

"Dynamite" has yet again taken the top spot of the Billboard chart dated April 10. The BTS song sold more than 37,000 copies in the United States in the previous week.

BTS's "Dynamite" has now surpassed the record set by the track "Despacito" (released in 2017), sung by Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee, and Justin Bieber. "Despacito" took first place 17 times on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart at that time. BTS has officially broken that record after three years.

In addition to this, "Dynamite" is the first song to sell 200,000 downloads in the US this year. It is the No. 1 bestseller both in 2020 and 2021. Thus, it is the No. 1 most downloaded track in the country so far, and the only K-pop song with the most downloads in the US this year.

Furthermore, BTS's "Dynamite" claimed the No. 6 spot on this week's Billboard Global Excl. US and landed on the No. 13 position on the latest Billboard Global 200.

"Dynamite" is described as a healing song that delivers a message of hope to everyone who is having a hard time because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
