BTS Takes Home Two Awards at the 2021 iHeartRadio Music Awards

On Friday, May 28, the 2021 iHeartRadio Music Awards was held at the Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles, California, the United States.

Among the numerous winners, BTS achieved victory, tying with The Weeknd for most awards this night.

BTS won the "Best Fan Army" category for the fandom, the ARMYs. The "Best Fan Army" is a socially voted category, meaning fans had to tweet the hashtag #BTSARMY and tag the iHeartRadio Music Awards account to vote for BTS.

The K-pop sensations beat out Agnez Mo, Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, BLACKPINK, Harry Styles, Why Don't We, Louis Tomlinson, Shawn Mendes, NCT 127, Selena Gomez, and Taylor Swift for the trophy.

This is the fourth time BTS has taken home the Best Fan Army award. They previously took home the awards in 2018, 2019, and 2020. BTS has won the award for four consecutive years.

BTS also took home to "Best Music Video" award for their Aug. 2020 smash hit, "Dynamite." For this award, BTS was nominated against The Weeknd for "Blinding Lights," Dua Lipa for "Don't Start Now," Maluma for "Hawái," BLACKPINK for "How You Like That", Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande for "Rain on Me," Cardi B for "WAP (feat. Megan Thee Stallion)," Harry Styles for "Watermelon Sugar," and Justin Bieber for "Yummy."

Additionally, BTS's choreographer, Son Seung Duk also snagged an award! The choreographer won the "Favorite Music Video Choreography" award for the "Dynamite" choreography. Son Seung Duk was up against big names in the industry and was the only Korean choreographer nominated.

The only award BTS did not bag this year was the "Best Duo/Group of the Year" award. The "Butter" singers ultimately lost the award to Dan + Shay. They were nominated against them, as well as The Jonas Brothers, Maroon 5, and Twenty One Pilots.

What are the iHearRadio Music Awards?

The iHeartRadio Music Awards is an annual music award show that applauds music figures throughout the year across iHeartRadio stations nationwide (the United States) and on iHeartRadio. The event started in 2014 and is known for recognizing the most popular artists and music releases over the past year.

Winners are selected through cumulative performance data. Some categories allow the public to vote for their favorite artists.

BTS Recent Activities

BTS recently made a comeback with the English single "Butter" on May 21. "Butter" broke the record for the biggest YouTube premier of all time with 3.9 million peak concurrent viewers. The "Butter" music video subsequently broke the record for the most-viewed YouTube video within the first 24 hours of its release, amassing 108.2 million views.
