The commissioner of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, James Rubin, has resigned as commissioner. The husband of CNN foreign correspondent Christiane Amanpour, Rubin will move with his wife and son to London "in a matter of days," The New York Times reports.

According to the Latin Times, Christiane Amanpour has said that she will continue to broadcast for CNN despite their relocation to London, and will serve as correspondent from the United Kingdom. She will also continue to host "Amanpour," a daily current events program on CNN International.

Rubin will become a scholar-in-residence at the Rothermere American Institute at Oxford University. He also hopes to write a book about America's use of military force abroad.

Anthony Hayes, a spokesman for the Port Authority, said Rubin's last day was Wednesday. Rubin's resignation comes just a year and a half after he was appointed by Governor Andrew M. Cuomo.

Rubin served in President Bill Clinton's administration as the State Department's chief spokesman. This move to London is not his first time living in the city - from 2001 to 2004, he was a professor of international relations at the London School of Economics, as well as a news anchor and commentator for Sky News from 2005 to 2007.

While Rubin was commissioner, the Port Authority saw a 46 percent profit on its toll collection facilities, the Latin Times reports.

Many residents of the New York and New Jersey area have complained about the rising rate increases at the Port Authority's tunnels and bridges. The Port Authority is an agency that charges $13 for drivers to enter New York City, and $75 for most peak-hour, cash-paying truck drivers, according to the Latin Times.

The agency also controls La Guardia and John F. Kennedy International Airports, and owns the site of the new World Trade Center property.

The site has recently been in the news when the spire was added to One World Trade Center, now the tallest building in the United States.
