SHINee Key Confesses He Has Never Met aespa

On Thursday, Jun. 17, SHINee Key took time out of his day to communicate with fans through Instagram Live.

During the live stream, he piqued viewers' interest by saying, "I will tell you guys a great story. I think everyone will be really surprised."

Though he gave fans a warning, no one had expected the words to come out of his mouth: "I have never met aespa before."

The moment he said it, Key could not help but let out a laugh.

Fans were shocked by this revelation, as both Key and aespa are K-pop idols under SM Entertainment. The male idol could not help but show some bitterness, stating that he has never even seen them from afar and has not come across them while he was at the company building.

Key added, "Even though aespa are rookies and only two songs have come out, we have never met. The company has gotten so big that the girls have their own separate practice room."

Despite having never met them, Key has shown extraordinary affection for his juniors, aespa!

During the snack mini-game on the Jun. 19 episode of tvN's "Amazing Saturday," Key showed off his love for the idol group by performing a cover dance of the girl group's song "Next Level."

Key's confession that he has not met the "Black Mamba" singers shocked many fans. People noted how all of aespa's songs have ranked high on music charts and that they even made it to numerous Billboard charts, which lead people to assume that the girls have come across their famous senior artists.

Fans were also under the impression that Key was close to the aespa members because of how perfectly he danced to the girl group's latest release, "Next Level."

Others joked that perhaps aespa and Key have not yet met is because the former consists of AI (ae in aespa's universe) members — some of the members are not real, while Key is 100% human!

SHINee Key and aespa's Recent Activities

Following Key's discharge from his mandatory military enlist on Oct. 7, 2020, Key returned as a regular cast member of the tvN program "Amazing Saturday - DoReMi Market." He is one of the regular cast members alongside fellow SM Entertainment artist Taeyeon of Girls' Generation.

For the 2021 Brand Consumer Loyalty Awards, Key won the "Male Variety - Idol" award.

aespa, on the other hand, made their comeback with their third digital single, "Next Level," on May 17, 2021. The song was a massive hit in South Korea, debuting at the top spot of the Genie and Bugs streaming sites. This makes aespa the first group that debuted in 2020 to have a song rank at the top of a music streaming service.
