Former GFRIEND Member Sowon Reportedly Signing with IOK Company, Home to B.I.

Sowon, a former member of GFRIEND, is reported to be signing with IOK Company, the current agency of former iKON member B.I.

The former GFRIEND member left Source Music this past May after her exclusive contract with the company expired. But, according to the Korean media outlet Newsen, Sowon has found a new agency that she will be joining soon.

Former GFRIEND Member Sowon Reportedly Moving to IOK Company

On July 29, Newsen released a report stating that Sowon plans to sign an exclusive contract with IOK Company soon.

While the former GFRIEND member is yet to sign the contract, it is said that she and the label have already reached an agreement.

IOK Company is an entertainment agency that manages a mix of singers, actors, and comedians. Its list of singers includes Jang Yoon Jeong, former Secret member Jeon Hyo Seong, H.O.T. member Moon Hee Jun, former iKON member B.I., who is also the label's executive director.

Meanwhile, its actors and comedians are Go Hyun Jung, Jo In Sung, Kim Ha Neul, Jang So Hee, Lee Sung Jae, Lee Young Ja, and Kim Sook.

Following the exclusive report, IOK Company confirmed that they are in positive discussions with Sowon concerning her possibly joining the agency.

Sowon would be the second former member GFRIEND to join a new agency after leaving Source Music, following Yerin.

On the same day, IOK Company announced that they have bought out 100% of the shares of YNK Entertainment, an acting label.

YNK Entertainment is home to Shin Hye Sun, Kim In Kwon, Kim Hyun Joo, Kyung Li, Lim Se Mi, and more.

Sowon's Last Activities as GFRIEND Member

Before GFRIEND disbanded in May, Sowon participated in the group's comebacks last year.

In February 2020, GFRIEND returned with a new extended play, titled "Labyrinth." This EP marked the band's first comeback in Korea after Big Hit Entertainment (now called HYBE) acquired their company Source Music.

GFRIEND's "Labyrinth" contains various styles and genres including EDM, rock, and synth-pop. It consists of six songs, one of which is the title track "Crossroads."

The girl group promoted the album with live performances of "Crossroads" on different Korean music shows, taking home seven trophies in total.

GFRIEND's "Labyrinth" was a success as it topped the Gaon Album Chart, becoming the group's fourth work to do so.

It sold 29,000 copies on the first day on the Hanteo Chart, and eventually broke their first-week sales record with 54,000 copies, passing the sales of their previous EP, "Fever Season."

In June, GFRIEND dropped another album, "Song of the Sirens," their ninth EP. It features the title song "Apple," which gave the group three music show trophies.

In October 2020, the six-member girl group made a Japanese comeback with two single albums: "Labyrinth ~Crossroads~" and "Song of the Sirens ~Apple~."

"Labyrinth ~Crossroads~" is composed of the Japanese versions of "Labyrinth" and "Crossroads," while the other album contains the Japanese renditions of "Tarot Cards" and "Apple."

In the same month, GFRIEND made a domestic comeback with their third studio album, "Walpurgis Night," which features the title track "Mago." This becomes their last work as a group.
