BTS Becomes the First Foreign Artist This 2021 to Score this Feat on the Oricon Chart

BTS is now the first foreign artist to accumulate an impressive number of sales points on the Oricon Chart with just one album, which is their new Japanese greatest hits album titled "BTS, THE BEST."

On June 16, BTS dropped their new Japanese compilation album "BTS, THE BEST" and it quickly climbed to the top of the Oricon Daily Album Chart on the same day with over 550,000 copies sold.

Almost three months have already passed but "BTS, THE BEST" steadily ranks on the Oricon Weekly Total Album Chart, and because of this, the album has set a new record for the boy group.

BTS is the First Foreign Artist This 2021 to Record these Outstanding Sales Points on the Oricon Chart

On Sept. 9, the Oricon Weekly Total Album Chart dated Sept. 13 was released. The counting period took place from Aug. 30 to Sept. 5. This chart ranks albums by adding up the number of physical albums, digital downloads, and streaming in Japan.

According to the latest weekly album rankings, BTS's "BTS, THE BEST" rose to No. 8 after recording a converted sales points of 6,909.

Overall, "BTS, THE BEST" has recorded one million cumulative sales points on the Oricon Chart. This makes BTS the first foreign artist this 2021 to achieve this milestone.

Prior to this, BTS's "BTS, THE BEST" broke the first-week sales record this year. The album sold a total of 782,369 copies, surpassing the previous record of 467,000 copies set by SixTONES's "1st," released in January.

Remarkably, BTS's new Japanese compilation album broke the first-week sales record in just one day. On the day of its release (June 16), a total of 571,589 copies were sold.

"BTS, THE BEST" is BTS's first Japanese compilation album in four years since 2017, when they released "THE BEST OF BTS - Japan Edition,"

BTS Sets and Breaks Records on Japanese Music Charts

In other news, BTS has set and broken more records on Japanese music charts.

On Billboard Japan's streaming chart, BTS's "Dynamite" has scored 500 million on-demand streams as of Sept. 8. It is now the fastest song in history to obtain this feat, doing so in only 55 weeks.

"Dynamite" has beaten the record of 63 weeks set by YOASOBI's "Racing into the Night."

Moreover, BTS's "Permission to Dance" is now the third-fastest song in history to hit 100 million streams on Billboard Japan, doing so in only nine weeks.

"Permission to Dance" now follows BTS's "Butter" at No. 1 with six weeks and LiSa Homura's "Flame" at No. 2 with seven weeks.

BTS has also extended their record as the only foreign artist in history to simultaneously chart three songs inside the Top 10 of Billboard Japan Hot 100. "Butter," "Permission to Dance," and "Dynamite" have now stayed in the Top 10 for seven weeks as of Sept. 8.

On Billboard Japan Artist 100, BTS has extended their record as the foreign artist with the most weeks at No. 1 in history. They have already spent 14 weeks on the tally as of Sept. 8.

Finally, BTS is now the first foreign artist in history to spend 50 cumulative weeks inside the Top 10 on the Japan Download Song Chart.
