BTS Takes Home Group of the Year Award at the 2021 VMAs

UPDATE: BTS takes home the trophy for the Song of the Summer award, beating songs from top contenders like Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X, Ed Sheeran, Justin Bieber, Dua Lipa, Olivia Rodrigo, Shawn Mendes, Lizzo, and more.

Out of the seven nominations they received, BTS won three of them.

BTS Takes Home Group of the Year Award at the 2021 Video Music Awards

On September 12 local time, the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) is well underway at the Barclays Center in New York, and is hosted by "Say So" singer, Doja Cat.

This year, numerous K-Pop acts have made it in the award show's list of nominations, with global superstars BTS snagging a total of seven nominations, such as Song of the Year, Best Pop, Best K-Pop, Best Choreography, Best Editing, Group of the Year, and Song of the Summer.

Prior to the start of the awards show, during a pre-show party, it was revealed that BTS had already won an award. According to American singer Tinashe, BTS had won the Group of the Year award after receiving a whopping 25 million votes.

BTS took home the award after going against seven other groups, such as fellow K-Pop superstars BLACKPINK, Jonas Brothers, CNCO, Foo Fighters, Maroon 5, Silk Sonic, and Twenty One Pilots.

Besides winning Group of the Year, BTS also won the Best K-Pop award for their recent May 2021 release, "Butter."

"Butter" won the award after battling it out with BLACKPINK's "Ice Cream," (G)I-DLE's "Dumdi Dumdi," SEVENTEEN's "Ready to Love," MONSTA X's "Gambler," and TWICE's "Alcohol-Free."

Although BTS couldn't attend the awards show in person to accept the awards, the seven-member group gave a video message thanking the Video Music Awards, their fans ARMY, and telling them, "We feel your love every minute and second."

BTS 'IDOL' Music Video Surpasses 1 Billion Views on Youtube

A few days after BTS' "Fake Love" music video surpasses one billion views, "IDOL" is the next to do so!

 Back on September 11 at approximately 10:30pm KST, the music video of "IDOL" had reached one billion views on Youtube, making it the sixth music video of the group to achieve this milestone after "DNA," "MIC Drop (Steve Aoki Remix)," "Dynamite," "Boy With Luv," and "Fake Love."

 Released back on August 24, 2018, it took "IDOL" three years and 18 days to surpass one billion views.
