SM and YG: Top 2 Entertainment Agencies, Cube Aims for No.3

SM Entertainment and YG Entertainment are definitely the top 2 agencies in Korea while JYP Entertainment still seems to not have settled completely.

The 2013 performance records of the leading entertainment companies have been revealed. The YG Entertainment could be the leaders in the whole race followed by the global success of Psy.

On May 15, it has been revealed that the business profits from the first quarter came out to be $6.29 million USD. It is a 44% increase from the previous year and the profit from sales rose by 40% with approximately $29.86 million USD. The net profit increased by 27.2% compared to last year at $4.16 million USD. YG Entertainment is currently the leader of the top 3 agencies.

SM Entertainment earned a business profit of about $5.1 million USD which is a 72.1% decrease from the previous year. However, the profit from sales came out to be over $49.9 million USD which is a 0.7% increase. The net profit decreased by 80% at $2.03 million USD.

Unlike SM Entertainment and YG Entertainment, JYP Entertainment seems to have lost a lot of business. Their first quarter profits were minus $936,000 USD. Although it was 63.3% less, compared to last year,'s losses of $2.55 million USD, JYP Entertainment was the only agency that had any losses.

JYP Entertainment had about $2.87 million USD in sales, which is a 57.1% increase. The net profit of the term was about minus $1.07 million. It is a big improvement compared to their loss of $2.89 million USD last year. Even though things are getting better, it is hard to avoid the fact that they are still struggling.

Recently, people in the music industry are building up their hopes for Cube Entertainment especially after singer Rain signed a contract with this agency. Cube Entertainment currently handles artists like BEAST and 4Minute.

In the second half of 2013, SM Entertainment will begin their world tour while YG Entertainment's 2NE1 is making a comeback this month, not to mention the global hype with Psy. It will be interesting to see the progresses of these entertainment agencies in the remaining half of this year.
