JYP Entertainment's new girl group, NMIXX, is gearing up for their debut on February 22.

On February 21, STAYC will make their comeback with their second mini-album. As their musical releases are close in date, both agencies are really teaser photos, sparking excitement among the K-pop community.

Besides both groups being praised as an all-visual group, Korean K-pop fans spotted another similarity between NMIXX and STAYC following the release of the teasers. Both groups made use of intricate hair accessories and face jewelry. With sparkling jewelry, both girl groups looked rich and luxurious. They look like royalty!

People noted that this is not just a coincidence — it is a whole trend in K-pop. People noted that for IVE's "ELEVEN" music video, Jang Wonyoung wore a similar headpiece during her solo scene in the bridge. Several other girl groups have also worn similar accessories.

But who started the trend?

Did BLACKPINK Start THIS Trend Among K-Pop Girl Groups?

People believe the trend was started by BLACKPINK back in 2019. During the "KILL THIS LOVE" music video, both Jennie and Jisoo wore intricate headpieces.

Jisoo was seen wearing an accessory that framed her head and face during her solo scene, where she dressed as an archer. She was seen shooting an arrow at her past, weak self in the scene. Some claimed that they immediately thought of Jisoo's iconic scene upon seeing the girl groups' teaser.

On the other hand, Jennie wore a sparkling accessory around her head during the song's bridge. Some internet users that this scene of Jennie was what started the whole trend.

Or Did aespa Start THIS Trend Among K-Pop Girl Groups?

However, others debated that the trend actually started with aespa in 2021. In October of last year, SM Entertainment released teasers for the group's "Savage" comeback. Some of their teasers featured intricate, large and fantasy-like headpieces that perfectly suited their metaverse concept.

While people acknowledge that BLACKPINK was the first group to wear such accessories, it only became big after aespa did it themselves. This is because the idea of wearing complex head and face jewelry with different symbols is what helped aespa become a trending girl group that year.
