'Best Newspaper Apology Ever!': London Publication Apologizes To Aliens For Linking Them To Scientology After UFO Sighting

The London Sun has just hit the viral sweet spot with a mock apology to the church of Scientology after a December 30 UFO sighting allegedly occurred above church's West Sussex headquarters.

The church demanded an apology after an article titled "Close Encounter of the Absurd Kind" was published detailing that the church believes humans comes from aliens who landed on earth.

According to The Sun, three passenger jets witnessed "two flat, silver discs" that were eventually picked up by air traffic control staff.

"Oddly, it emerged a day later that Scientologists, famously followed by Tom Cruise, carved a message to aliens in hills in New Mexico, US. The cult believes aliens inhabit human bodies," wrote Sun contributor Paul Sims.

While some believed the UFOs to be balloons or kites, officials have reportedly failed to come up with solid explanations for the sighting.

After being demanded an apology by the Scientology church, The Sun published the following quippy response:

"In an article on Saturday headline 'Flying Saucers over British Scientology HQ', we stated 'two flat silver discs' were seen 'above the Church of Scientology HQ'."

"Following a letter from lawyers for the Church, we apologize to any alien life forms for linking them to Scientologists".

According to news.com.au, the apology was demanded because the church reportedly did not believe that humans were aliens.

"It's a common misunderstanding," said Sydney branch representative Sei Broadhurst.

Since the publication of the "apology," the phrase "best newspaper apology ever" has trended on Twitter.
