Bruce Springsteen Tribute to James Gandolfini: `Born To Run’ in Full; One Jersey Boss to Another

Bruce Springsteen gave tribute to the late actor James Gandolfini in concert. From one Jersey boss to another. Bruce Springsteen was the boss of the New Jersey band The E Street Band, whose guitarist Steve Van Zandt was a regular, and James Gandolfini, as Tony Soprano, was the boss of the New Jersey crime family that ruled the HBO crime drama, The Sopranos, according to published reports.

Bruce Springsteen’s tribute to James Gandolfini happened at a show in Conventry. U.K. Twelve songs into his set to announced that the E. Street Band would play the classic album “Born to Run,” from 1975, in its entirety as a dedication to James Gandolfini.

Steven Van Zandt, who has been a regular member of Springsteen's E Street band since the seventies, played Tony Soprano's consigliere Silvio Dante on The Sopranos for the series’ entire six-season run. The actor/musician wrote on his Facebook page Wednesday, "I have lost a brother and a best friend. The world has lost one of the greatest actors of all time."

That wasn’t the only tribute to the TV, film and stage actor, a moment of silence was observed for actor James Gandolfini by the New York Yankees at the start of the Wednesday night game against the Tampa Bay Rays. The Yankees played “The Sopranos" theme song and displayed a 2002 photo of Gandolfini waving at Yankee Stadium. James Gandolfini threw out the opening pitch , and read from Lou Gehrig's 1939 farewell speech at the 2002 game. Sports fans have noted that Gandolfini died on what would have been Gehrig's 110th birthday.

Other tributes included one on “Sesame Street” which posted a clip on its site from Gandolfini's 2002 appearance on the show, where he comforted Muppet Zoe about being afraid. He said in his appearance, “I know what it's like to be scared. Everyone gets scared sometimes."

James Gandolfini died last Wednesday night in Rome of a massive heart attack.
