'Sherlock' Season 3 Episode Spoilers: Watson And Love Interest Mary Morstan Played By Real Couple Martin Freeman And Amanda Abbington, Will TV Wedding Turn Into Real Nuptials?

As BBC's hit series "Sherlock" gets ready to premiere its third season, rumors claim not only will Watson's literary love interest and eventual wife Mary Morstan appear this season, but it will be played by Martin Freeman's real life romantic partner, actress Amanda Abbington.

According to IMDB, the second episode of season three is titled "The Sign of Three," most definitely based on the Sherlock Holmes story "The Sign of Four," and it is where Mary Morstan is introduced to Dr. Watson.

With Abbington confirmed to star this season, will she play the part of partner-in-crime both on-screen and off?

"Working with Martin on 'Sherlock' is really quite inspiring, 'cause he's so good at his job. And he and [Benedict Cumberbatch] have this fantastic chemistry," says the English actress.

"Coming into 'Sherlock' you have to up your game, 'cause they're so good together."

Abbington was recently photographed on set in a wedding dress, so it is all but officially confirmed that she's set to play Morstan. However, Abbington is reportedly sworn to secrecy until the season actually airs.

Freeman and Abbington met in 2000 on the set of "Men Only." And while the pair have two children, they have yet to marry.

"I'm an only child, I'm quite self-sufficient. I can get on with stuff on my own. I don't like to worry other people, either," admits Abbington.

The "Mr. Selfridge" actress recently famously had run-ins with cancer and bankrupcy, but refused to get help from Freeman.

"It was fine in the end, and Martin was fantastic. But I said to him there was no point in him coming home. He'd be sitting there holding my hand and worrying, whereas he didn't need to."

Will a "Sherlock" wedding be the closest thing the pair gets to making it official?
