David Bowie May Appear on ‘Hannibal;' First Role in Four Years

David Bowie, the famed glam-rock star who has gone on to become a master musician, painter and gifted actor, has been offered a role on the hit U.S. TV show, `Hannibal’ that runs on NBC. David Bowie’s last acting performance was in the film `Bandslam’ four years ago. David Bowie appeared only for a cameo. The producers are hopeful that the former onstage “Elephant Man” will play Hannibal’s uncle.

David Bowie may be appearing on season two of Hannibal. Bryan Fuller, who runs `Hannibal,’ confirmed that they have offered Bowie a role on the program. Fuller told E! News “We have reached out to David Bowie to see if he’s interested and available. We would love for him to play Hannibal’s uncle, who is a character from the literature and it the books.” Fuller added, "we don't have an answer yet." Production on the NBC series goes back into resumes production in August in Toronto.

“Hannibal,” which premiered last year, is based on the Thomas Harris novel, “Red Dragon.” The book was turned into a film of the same name with Ed Norton and was the sequel to the book that became the 1991 Oscar winning psychopathic horror film “The Silence Of The Lambs,” which starred Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster.

 Dr. Hannibal Lecter is played by Mads Mikkelsen. The series revolves around the relationship that is developing between the famed cannibal with epicurean tastes and the Will Graham, portrayed by Hugh Dancy, the FBI special investigator who is out to get him.

In the book, Hannibal’s uncle, Count Robert Lecter, was who is murdered by Nazis. Fuller said, “Since our timeline is a little more present, there’s a little bit of JJ Abrams-style alternate universe storytelling where he could still be alive.”

Bowie has appeared in all three videos from his latest album, “The Next Day,” “Where Are We Now?,” “The Stars (Are Out Tonight),” and “The Next Day.” He has not yet given any interviews or done any concerts to prmote the album. Nonetheless, “The Next Day” shot to the top of the British charts when it was released in March.

Bowie's acting credits include 2006's The Prestige, Labyrinth, and The Hunger television series. The legendary rocker had a heart attack a few years ago and slowed down his output.
